Sophomore Breakout Seasons
December 16, 2004 Comprised by Pat Benninger
Below is a list of sophomores who have had the best run so far in the 2004-2005 basketball season.
- Justin Bocot 63 G Bloomington (16 ppg, 3 blk) - Aside from Brandon Holtz, Bocot has been leading the Raiders in scoring.
- Jelani Polston 67 PF Lincoln Park (8 ppg, 8 reb) - Pulled down 13 boards and 16 points against a very tough Chicago Crane. Polston is having the best season so far for the young studs of the Lincoln Park Lions.
- Derrick Rose 63 G Simeon (16 ppg, 6 reb) - Began his varsity introduction with a 22 point game against Thornwood.
- Jeremiah Kelly 61 PG Julian (8 ppg, 4 ast) - Starting at the point for the #2 state-ranked, Jaguars. Kelly is on an offensive-dominated team but still seems to score his points.
- Aaron Johnson 510 PG Hubbard (8 ppg, 9 ast) - Doesnt need to score to make is presence felt on the floor. Johnson is averaging close to a double-double this season and is leading his team very well as a sophomore.
- Nayal Koshwal (10 ppg, 7 reb) - Missed the Jaguars first two games but came back very strong. Koshwal has become a force inside and is without a shadow of a doubt the best post player in Illinois.
- Demetri McCamey (10 ppg, 5 reb) - Third in scoring at St. Joseph behind Tony Freeman and Jon Peoples. McCamey is starting at the small forward and is helping his team out big time on both ends of the floor.
- Lonnie Lawrence (5 ppg, 10 reb) - The only sophomore to average double figures in rebounds. Lawrence has made a big varsity debut.
- Michael Horton (9 ppg, 5 ast) - Not starting but still getting big time minutes for Vince Carter. Horton is doing well playing behind senior sensation, Angel Santiago. He really knows how to get out and run the floor on the break.
- Jeffery Jordan (12 ppg) - Started the season off with a 22 point game. He is the star player at Loyola Academy. Look for him to make a big impact in the northern part of the state.
