The 2005 MidStateHoops.com Player of the Year Jon Scheyer of Glenbrook North has committed to Duke University. Scheyer is coming off a spectacular season in which he led his team to the Class AA state championship. This decision makes Scheyer the highest ranking player in the class of 2006 to commit from the state of Illinois Despite the fact that Glenbrook North head coach, Dave Weber, is the brother of Illinois head coach, Bruce Weber, Illinois still failed to successfully recruit Scheyer. The pipeline from Illinois to Durham, North Carolina continues to flow.

Scheyer adds himself to the list of Illinois players that have committed to Duke in recent years. The list includes Corey Maggette, Mike Thompson, Sean Dockery, and Shaun Livingston. Mike Thompson has since transferred to Northwestern after one season with Duke. Shaun Livingston never played for the school as he declared himself eligible for the NBA Draft following his days at Peoria Richwoods.

Scheyer is the first Duke commit in the class of 2006. He plays on the Illinois Warriors AAU team.
