What's up everybody!
The season really is starting to heat up. We had a great tournament at
Proviso West and we've been playing pretty well the past couple of
weeks. At Proviso we faced up with and beat Schaumburg, Evanston, and a
tough H-F squad. The H-F game was pretty fun. There were a lot of
people out to watch two good teams play but fortunately we came out the
winner. After our game, our team stayed to watch an outstanding
performance by Von Stueben over Hillcrest. In the championship against St.
Joes, we came up short, but again it was a great learning experience for
us. They were beatable; we just made some crucial mistakes. I think we
will get around the second place thing sometime soon.
As for me, the Proviso West tourney was a great experience. I got to
play in front of a lot of people and against some great players as a
sophomore. That will really help me for my return the next two years.
Our conference play has started and so far we are 3-0, defeating Carver
and Morgan Park at home and Simeon at their place. We had to focus a
lot in Simeon, it was loud and a couple of fights broke out as well. It
was a great game and a great game for the fans to see. We played
Morgan Park today and I played pretty well with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 2
assists. We've got Bogan Friday and Harlan coming up next week. Our
expectations are to go 10-0 through our conference and then head on to
a city championship for this next month.
This weekend I went to go see the movie, 'White Noise'. It was
pretty stupid to me. I didn't really understand it. I should of just
waited for the bootleg. I'm waiting for 'Coach Carter' to come
out so I can go see it. It should be pretty good. Our progress reports came out and I got two B's and five A's. I did pretty good, I hope I keep it up until our
reports cards come out.
Day in and day out practice is intense. All the hard work is really
paying off. I'm continuing to work on my individual game as well.
I've been focusing on improving my breakdown dribble and getting to the
basket more. Coach wants me to start playing the point guard position
frequently so I have to continually work on my ball handling. Since I
can rebound the ball well for a guard, I've also been getting
accustom to coming up with it and pushing it up my self. I'm still working
on my jump shooting and I'm getting the glass shot into my game as
well. Most of my concentration has been on decision making in our
scrimmages and situations in practice at both guard slots.
Our schedule will continue with tough play through our conference and
we are supposed to play some out of state team this weekend.
I wanna give a shout out to my friend Danae Russell at Thornwood.
She's been doing her thang on the court. And a shout out to A.O.
(Jeremie Simmons) for dropping 42 on Northside Prep. Good luck to
everybody on the rest of their seasons and the road to the Elite
Eight!
Until next time,
Trey Blue
