What's up everybody,

I know it's been a while but I'm back with another journal. The start of my spring and the beginning of my summer has been great. My main focus is to continue adding definition to my body by lifting weights daily. I'm up to 180 lbs. so far. I'm in the gym daily, whether it's an open gym or my school. I'm continuing to work on my ball handling as well as my range and accuracy on my jump shot. I'm focusing on making the transition to a 6-3 scoring point guard. I've developed better passing skills and decision making skills in the process. I've also been doing more quickness drills to add to my speed.

I'm having lots of fun traveling and playing basketball with the MeanStreets program. It's been fun for me to see some other states and have fun playing basketball while doing it.

Lot's of things have been going on with my family. My grandfather, who I admire dearly, just had his 70th birthday on May 8th. His name is Bill Alderson (known by some Chicagoans as "Pops"). He was Bob Hambric's assistant at Simeon before he had a severe stroke in 1996. His birthday was great and he's still living a strong life through God.

I'm finally 16 years old! My birthday was May 19th and it was a great day for me. My father's birthday just passed as well, which was May 15th. My sister, who made 22 on April 24th, graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago on May 7th. She's headed off to Law School pretty soon.

As for school, at the end of the 3rd marking period I posted 4 A's and 3 B's on my report card. The end of the school year is coming and I can't wait. We will take our finals on June 6th and 7th and school officially ends on June 16th.

So far, the MeanStreets program has made some noise, both nationally and locally. With the 16U age group, we had a nice State Tournament to start off the summer. I fouled out in the game against Old Gold, which we lost in the Elite 8 of the tournament. Our 16's competed at the Houston Kingwood Classic and the Spiece Run 'N Slam, which they made it to the sweet 16 in both tournaments. I played 17U at Spiece and played fairly well. I had one break out game, scoring 26 points against Team Ohio Wildcats in the first round of the one-game elimination tournament. In a game later that night against Seattle Rotary Select, I again played well with 12 points and 4 assists. We ended up losing to Blessed IJN-Elite the next morning in a rough game that could have matched us up with the D-1 Greyhounds in the Elite 8. We ended up losing the game by 8, with Joevan Catron sitting out the whole second half. The Spiece tournament was lots of fun; I got to watch O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker in action against Greg Oden, Mike Conley, and Daequan Cook in the championship game. Our 15U and 16U brought back championships of the Wolves Reebok Challenge on May 8th. I got back with the 16U team and attended the Adidas May Classic in Bloomington, IN. We played pretty well, considering a team we beat in pool play won the tournament. We went 2-1 in the Super Pool which consisted of us, Indiana Elite, Spiece Central Stars, and Pump 'N Run. We lost to Indiana Elite by 3 at the University of Indiana and we beat the Spiece Central Stars by 3. Guess who played for the championship? Indiana Elite lost to the Spiece Central Stars in the championship. We lost to the Queen City Prophets before we made it to the championship. Our 15U lost in the championship game and without Patrick Beverly, our 17U lost again to Blessed IJN-Elite by 3 in OT in the sweet 16. We will eventually get over the hump of the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 losses. We're playing pretty good basketball in some pretty big tournaments.

The transition from strictly being a shooting guard, to being able to also play the point guard position was not easy. It took a lot of hard work and long hours. Getting my teammates involved and getting lots of assists has been fun because of the great players around me and in our program. We are a very athletic team who loves to run, but we also know how to slow it down if necessary.

I am looking forward to the rest of the summer. We have the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions coming up in North Carolina on May 27th. Then we host our own tournament the following weekend. We will finish out the summer with the Hoosier Shootout in Indiana and AAU Nationals for all levels. I am looking forward to finishing strong both on the court and during this last marking period of school.

I would like to send shouts out to the founders of the MeanStreets program, Tai Streets and Carlton Debose. I would also like to thank God for the opportunities in life that he as blessed me with.

That's all until next time,
Trey Blue #3
